Air stylers used to mean one thing: tools that shape hair with airflow rather than hot plates. The Shark Glam changes that by adding heated ceramic surfaces to the airflow. The Dyson Airwrap Co-anda 2x sticks with air-only styling but adds a stronger motor and an air straightener. If you are choosing between the two, you are really choosing between two styling methods. This comparison uses the Amazon UK listing facts for both tools in our guides.

Listing facts side by side

Both include curling tools and a dryer function. The Airwrap goes further on air styling; the Glam adds contact heat.

How the Airwrap Co-anda 2x styles

The Airwrap uses the Coanda effect: air leaving the barrel follows its curved surface and draws hair around it. Dyson says the Gen2 motor in the Co-anda 2x gives 30% more power and twice the air pressure of the Airwrap i.d., which helps curls hold and speeds up drying. The tool measures air temperature over 1,000 times a second to avoid extreme heat.

This bundle has six attachments: a fast dryer, a conical barrel, a 40 mm barrel, an air straightener with aerothermal plates, a large round volumising brush and an anti-snag loop brush. The i.d. curl sequence senses movement and automates the wrap, and the MyDyson app can tailor settings to your hair type. Our Airwrap settings explainer covers what each setting does.

How the Shark Glam styles

The Glam's Silki tool combines heat-controlled ceramic with high-speed airflow for a smooth finish on wet or dry hair. The Glossi hot tool and air glosser targets glossy, frizz-free blow-dries with bounce, and Shark describes a Gloss Lock technology for shine on dry hair. Auto-Wrap curlers handle curls, and the curl defining diffuser and concentrator cover drying.

Contact heat is the key difference. A warm ceramic surface smooths each section faster than air alone, especially on thick or frizzy hair, and works on dry, second-day hair. The trade-off is that you are touching the hair with a hot surface, so technique and temperature matter more. The listing also mentions a Scalp Shield mode for cooler root drying.

Which suits your hair

For other options, compare the full field in our best Airwrap-style multi-stylers guide, or our Airwrap vs FlexStyle comparison if you are also considering Shark's air-only tool.

  • Fine hair you want to curl: Airwrap, as air-only styling at controlled temperature is gentle and the barrels give soft curls.
  • Thick, frizzy hair you want glossy and sleek: Glam, for the ceramic smoothing tools.
  • You restyle on dry hair between washes: Glam, designed to work on dry hair.
  • You want app-led settings and auto curls: Airwrap Co-anda 2x.
  • Natural curls to define: Glam includes a curl defining diffuser; Dyson sells a Curly and Coily Airwrap with a diffuser.

Heat and hair care

No heated styling is entirely free of risk. Air stylers avoid the high surface temperatures of plates, and temperature-controlled ceramic reduces the chance of scorching, but repeated passes on the same section still dry hair out. Use the lowest heat that works, keep tools moving and use a heat protectant on fragile or coloured hair.

Both tools draw air through filters that need regular cleaning. A clogged filter makes the tool run hotter and can cause cut-outs. See how to clean the Airwrap filter for the Dyson method; check the Shark manual for the Glam.

Note:Let heated ceramic attachments cool before removing or storing them.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Shark Glam an Airwrap dupe? Not exactly. It covers similar jobs but adds heated ceramic tools, so it works differently. It is closer to a combined air styler and hot brush.

Which gives longer-lasting curls? Curl hold depends on hair type, section size and using a cool shot to set each curl. Dyson says the Co-anda 2x's stronger airflow helps curls last; neither listing gives a measured hold time.

Can the Airwrap straighten hair? The Co-anda 2x bundle includes an air straightener that dries and straightens from wet, so yes, without hot plates.

Which is easier to use? The Airwrap's auto curl sequence and app add guidance; the Glam's tools are simpler to understand. Both take a few sessions to master.
