The Philips 8000 Series BHD837/03 brings the high-speed brushless format to a mainstream brand. It is aimed at people who want a light dryer that dries short to mid-length hair quickly, and at anyone with fine or damaged hair, both of which appear in the listed hair types. Its standout is weight: Philips says it is the lightest high-speed dryer it makes, at 395 g.
- Motor speed
- 110,000 rpm
- Airflow
- Dual Airstream, figure not stated
- Wattage
- 1,400 W

Good to know
- At 1,400 W it has the lowest wattage of the dryers in this guide.
- Only an 8 mm styling nozzle is included, and the specs list just two settings.
Our take
Motor, airflow and the speed claim
Philips fits a brushless DC motor that spins at up to 110,000 times per minute and calls this its fastest blow dryer. The headline claim is drying in 3 minutes or less, with a footnote in the listing, so treat it as a lab figure rather than a promise for long or thick hair.
Airflow is built around Dual Airstream technology, which draws air in through two inlets and merges it into one stream. Philips links this to less frizz. The listing does not give an airflow rate or air speed, so it cannot be lined up numerically with the 22 m/s quoted for the Laifen Swift Premium.
Heat protection and the Gentle mode
ThermoShield Advanced sensors monitor heat, and Philips claims they help keep up to 100% of hair's natural strength. The more practical feature is a dedicated Gentle mode for the scalp and fine hair. For short hair that dries in a few minutes anyway, this lower setting may be all you need.
Philips also cites 200 million negative and water ions and says they raise moisture-rich shine by up to 58%. The spec table lists only two settings, so do not expect the fine-grained heat steps of a Dyson.
Living with it
Two details help with upkeep. An auto-clean mode is listed for maintenance, and Philips says the dryer uses up to 50% less energy than its comparison model. In the box you get the dryer and one 8 mm styling nozzle, which is narrow enough to direct air at a fringe or a short crop.
There is a confusing wattage field in the specs, while the product title states 1,400 W. The listed item weight of 640 g likely includes packaging, as the bullet points give 395 g. Philips does not give a cable length or warranty period on this page.
Who should look elsewhere
If you have long, thick or curly hair, the single narrow nozzle and lower wattage are limiting, and there is no diffuser. The Elchim Anemos is even lighter at 290 g with a stated airflow figure, while the Dyson Supersonic Origin gives four heat settings and published pressure and airflow numbers.
Verdict
The Philips 8000 Series suits short or fine hair and anyone who values a very light dryer with a gentle scalp setting and easy cleaning. For long or curly hair, or if you want more heat steps and a diffuser, look at the Dyson Supersonic Origin or the Laifen Swift Premium instead.
