The Laifen Swift Special is a high-speed dryer for people who want brushless-motor performance in a light, quiet package. Laifen quotes a 110,000 RPM motor, 22 m/s airflow and a stated 59 dB noise level, all in a body listed at 407 g. That combination of low weight and a low published noise figure is unusual, and it is the main reason to consider it over heavier rivals.

In its favour

  • Stated motor speed of 110,000 RPM matches Dyson's V9 figure.
  • Diffuser, smooth nozzle and concentrator come in the box.
  • 59 dB stated noise level is a published figure Dyson does not give.

Good to know

  • The spec table says 2.24 kg against 407 g in the bullets.
  • Hottest setting is 176°F (80°C), cooler than Dyson's 100°C top step.

Our take

Motor, airflow and ions

The brushless motor is rated at 110,000 RPM and drives a 22 m/s airflow, which Laifen says dries hair fast without relying on extreme heat. The dryer releases 200 million negative ions, aimed at reducing static and smoothing the cuticle.

Rated power is 1,600 W. That is lower than traditional salon dryers, but high-speed models rely more on air velocity than on heat.

Temperature control and the LED ring

A dedicated microprocessor monitors air temperature 100 times per second, according to Laifen. A four-colour LED ring shows the heat setting at a glance: red for hot at 176°F (80°C), yellow for warm at 122°F (50°C) and blue for cool. Holding the button for two seconds starts a temperature circulating mode that alternates heat levels.

An 80°C top setting is modest, which suits people worried about heat but may feel slow on very thick hair.

Nozzles, weight and travel

Three magnetic nozzles come in the box: a smooth nozzle, a diffuser and a concentrator. The nozzle rotates through 360° and a fine filter mesh helps stop hair being drawn in. Laifen gives the weight as 407 g, though the spec table shows 2.24 kg, which is likely the boxed item.

Its size and weight make it a reasonable travel dryer, but the listing does not state cable length or dual voltage. Cleaning the mesh regularly should help keep airflow at its rated level.

How it compares with Elchim and Dyson

The Elchim Anemos is lighter still at a listed 290 g, with a claim of under 69 dBA. The Dyson Supersonic r Curly+Coily brings a diffuser and wide-tooth comb for textured hair. The Laifen Swift Premium adds a wall mount and keeps the 22 m/s airflow.

Verdict

The Laifen Swift Special suits anyone who wants a light, quiet high-speed dryer with a diffuser included. If you want the lightest body listed, look at the Elchim Anemos, and if you need higher heat for thick hair, a 2,200 W option such as the ghd Helios fits better.
