The Airwrap i.d. sits in the middle of Dyson's multi-styler range and is aimed at straight to wavy hair of varying lengths. What separates it from the older Airwrap is the i.d. curl sequence: press a button and the tool wraps, styles and cools each section using timings stored for your hair. For people who find manual twisting fiddly, that automation is the real selling point.

Our take
How the i.d. curl sequence works
Dyson describes a routine that adjusts heat, airflow and timing to your strands, then stores the wrap, style and cold shot durations. Once saved, the same curl can be recreated at the push of a button. The MyDyson app adds a hair profile, step by step routines and saved settings over Bluetooth.
The listing claims longer lasting curls than the original Airwrap, and up to 58% less frizz and flyaways from the smoothing dryer compared with the original styling attachments. Both figures are measured against Dyson's own older kit.
The six heads in plain terms
There is a Conical barrel for tighter curls closer to the root, a 40 mm long barrel for loose waves, a Large round volumising brush, an Anti-snag loop brush, a 2-in-1 Coanda smoothing dryer and a Fast dryer. Between them they cover rough drying, smoothing, body at the root and two sizes of curl.
Power comes from the Dyson digital motor V9 with a 13-blade impeller rated up to 110,000 rpm. Temperature is held under 150°C according to the listing, and the spec table quotes 1,300 W, three speeds and a 600 g weight.
Short hair and long hair use
The conical barrel makes the i.d. a reasonable fit for shorter cuts, because a narrow tip can catch shorter sections that a 40 mm barrel would struggle to wrap. Longer hair is served by the 40 mm barrel. Both are designed for straight to wavy textures, and Dyson sells a separate Curly+Coily edition for tighter patterns.
Compared with the Co-anda2x and the Airsmooth
The Airwrap Co-anda2x adds the Gen2 motor and an air straightener, so the i.d. is the choice if you do not need flat-iron style results. For short hair specifically, the Dyson Airsmooth is a simpler smoothing tool without barrels. Shark's FlexStyle 5-in-1 offers a 24 mm curler option for short lengths but no app-led curl routine.
Verdict
Buy the Airwrap i.d. if you have straight or wavy hair and like the idea of repeatable, button-driven curls. If you want air straightening as well, look at the Airwrap Co-anda2x, and if your hair is curly or coily, the Curly+Coily edition is the better match.
