The Airwrap Origin is the original Coanda styler in a pared-back form, aimed at people who mainly want loose curls, waves and a smooth blow-dry. Its defining feature is a single 40 mm long barrel that wraps hair in both directions, so you do not need two barrels or a swap between sides. Three attachments and no app make it the most straightforward Airwrap in Dyson's current line.

Our take
The bi-directional barrel explained
Most Coanda stylers ship two barrels, one for each direction. Dyson says the Origin's 40 mm barrel styles clockwise or anticlockwise without switching attachments, using airflow to wrap each section automatically. The listing suggests holding for a few seconds, then releasing and letting the curl set.
A 40 mm diameter is best suited to loose curls, mermaid waves and soft volume on longer lengths. Shorter hair may not wrap fully around a barrel that wide.
Motor and temperature
The Dyson Digital Motor V9 is rated up to 110,000 rpm. A glass bead thermistor measures exit temperature 40 times every second and keeps it under 150°C, according to Dyson. There are three heat settings, including a constant cold shot, and three speeds.
Rated power is 1,300 W and the weight is given as 610 g. The spec table lists coily, curly, straight and wavy hair types.
Setting up a routine
Dyson's suggested order is to towel-dry, pre-dry with the Fast dryer until damp, pick a heat and speed, then section the hair and fit the barrel. The Anti-snag loop brush handles smoothing, with bristles designed for scalp comfort and less snagging. Styling masterclasses are available in the MyDyson app, but the listing does not describe Bluetooth or a curl sequence on this model. Cleaning and filter care are not covered in the listing text, so check the manual on arrival.
Origin versus i.d. and Co-anda2x
Dyson's own listing spells out the ladder. The Airwrap i.d. adds Bluetooth, the i.d. curl sequence and six attachments including a conical barrel. The Airwrap Co-anda2x adds the Gen2 motor and the 2x attachment set with an air straightener. The Origin gives up those extras for a simpler three-piece kit.
Verdict
Buy the Airwrap Origin if you want Dyson's Coanda curls and waves with minimal kit, especially on mid-length to long hair. If you need a narrower barrel for tighter curls or short hair, choose the Airwrap i.d., and if straightening matters too, the Airwrap Co-anda2x is the fuller option.
