The FlexStyle IonCurl is Shark's most fully loaded twist-to-dry multi-styler, aimed at people of any hair type who want curls, smoothing and diffusing from one handle. Its stand-out claim is ion output: Shark quotes 200 million negative ions for frizz control and less static. Add CoandaBoost for a stronger curl wrap and a dedicated curl-defining diffuser, and it covers more textures than most Airwrap-style kits.

In its favour
- CoandaBoost is stated to give bouncier, more defined curls than the original FlexStyle.
- 1,750 W is the highest rating among the multi-stylers here.
- Airset button pauses airflow or gives a cool burst with a tap.
Good to know
- Both curlers are 32 mm, so there is no smaller barrel for tight curls.
- Product weight is unclear; the listed 3.58 kg looks like a packed figure.
Our take
What CoandaBoost and the ion output are for
Shark says CoandaBoost Technology increases wrap force over the standard FlexStyle, which should mean curls that come out bouncier and more defined. The 200 million ion figure is presented as the route to smoother, shinier hair with less static while you style.
Neither claim comes with a measured comparison beyond the reference to the original FlexStyle, so treat them as the maker's description of what changed rather than a quantified gain.
Controls worth knowing about
Scalp Shield mode is designed to protect new hair growth from too much heat, adjusting temperature as soon as it is switched on. The AirSet button pauses airflow with a double tap or sends a burst of cool air with a single tap, which is handy for setting a curl without moving your thumb to another switch.
The spec table gives 1,750 W, noticeably higher than the 1,300 W Dyson and Dreame multi-stylers in the same guides. The listed 3.58 kg weight almost certainly includes packaging and the case, because the handle dimensions are given as roughly 28.6 cm by 3.8 cm.
What comes in the box
You get the IonCurl handle, two 32 mm Coanda curlers, a FrizzFighter polisher, an oval brush, a paddle brush, a curl-defining diffuser and a storage case. Shark offers a two-year guarantee once the product is registered. There is no smaller barrel, so very short hair may be awkward to curl.
Against the FlexStyle 5-in-1 and the Airwrap Co-anda2x
The Shark FlexStyle 5-in-1 shares the twist-to-dry design and the diffuser but leaves out the ion system, CoandaBoost and the FrizzFighter. The Dyson Airwrap Co-anda2x brings an air straightener and app control, but this Dyson edition is designed for straight to wavy hair, whereas Shark lists the IonCurl for all hair types.
Verdict
Pick the FlexStyle IonCurl if you have curly, frizz-prone or mixed hair and want a diffuser, two brushes and strong curl wrap in one kit. If your hair is short, the Shark FlexStyle 5-in-1 with a 24 mm curler suits better, and if you want air straightening the Airwrap Co-anda2x is the one to compare.
