Hair dryer running-cost calculator
Enter the dryer's rated watts, how long and how often you use it, and the unit rate from your electricity bill. The calculator shows the energy per use and per year, and what that costs on your tariff.
In short
kWh a year = watts x minutes per use x uses per week x 52 ÷ 60 ÷ 1,000. Multiply by your unit rate in p/kWh and divide by 100 for pounds a year. A 2,000 W dryer used for 10 minutes uses about 0.33 kWh.

Based on the rated watts. Lower heat and speed settings draw less, so this is an upper estimate. Type decimals with a point, for example 24.5.
Energy per 10 minutes
The energy a dryer uses grows in step with its watts. These are the figures for one 10 minute use at full rating.
| Rating | kWh per 10 min | kWh a year at 5 uses a week |
|---|---|---|
| 1,200 W | 0.20 | 52.0 |
| 1,600 W | 0.27 | 69.3 |
| 2,000 W | 0.33 | 86.7 |
| 2,400 W | 0.40 | 104.0 |
