Shark SpeedStyle Pro: Scalp Shield for straight hair

This edition of the Shark SpeedStyle Pro is the straight and wavy hair version, trimmed to three attachments without a diffuser. It keeps the compact high-velocity body, Scalp Shield mode and auto-adjusting settings of the larger kit. The result is a focused dryer for sleek blow-dries and smooth finishes, which makes sense for anyone who never diffuses and would rather not store extra heads.

Our take

Attachments and what each does

The Turbo Concentrator directs airflow for fast drying and brush work. The QuickSmooth Brush smooths as you dry, and the FrizzFighter Finishing Tool tidies flyaways at the end. Shark says heat and airflow adjust automatically for each attachment, and a cool shot sets the finished style.

Five-attachment editions add a DefrizzFast diffuser and an Express Touch-Up Brush, which this box does not include.

Scalp Shield and fine hair

Scalp Shield mode lowers air temperature to what Shark calls the optimum safe level for scalp comfort, and is designed to protect new hair growth. On fine hair, that lower heat at the roots can help avoid dryness. Ionising technology is built in to reduce frizz compared with air drying.

The listing gives 1,750 W with three speeds and three settings, but no temperature figures.

Weight and handling

Shark lists 662 g. That sits mid-pack in the lightweight dryer comparisons: heavier than the Panasonic EH-NA7M at 490 g, lighter than many traditional high-wattage dryers. A UK plug is fitted, and a two-year guarantee applies on registration in the UK and ROI. The handle does not fold, unlike the SpeedStyle Pro Flex. For a quick daily blow-dry on shoulder-length hair, three heads are usually enough, and the automatic settings mean the dryer is easy to share. Storage is simple too, since there is no bulky diffuser to find room for. The listing does not mention a storage bag in this edition.

Against the Dyson Supersonic and Panasonic EH-NA7M

The Dyson Supersonic includes gentle air and flyaway tools for fine hair at 1,600 W and 675 g. The Panasonic EH-NA7M folds, uses nanoe and weighs a stated 490 g, though it comes with only a concentrator and quick dry nozzle. The Shark offers the most included smoothing tools of the three.

Verdict

Buy this SpeedStyle Pro if your hair is straight or wavy and you want smoothing tools plus a scalp-friendly heat mode. If you diffuse curls, pick the five-attachment SpeedStyle Pro instead, and if weight and folding matter most, the Panasonic EH-NA7M is lighter and more compact.
