Dyson Supersonic Nural: 60°C step and gentle air

The Supersonic Nural HD16 suits people with fine or easily damaged hair who want a dryer that keeps heat in check without constant adjustment. Its sensors run Scalp protect mode, which targets 55°C at the scalp, and switch the heater off when you put the dryer down. Combined with a gentle air attachment and colour-coded heat settings, it gives fine hair plenty of low-heat options.

In its favour

  • Scalp protect mode targets 55°C at the scalp for close-up drying, per Dyson.
  • Gentle air attachment, smoothing nozzle and flyaway smoother are all included.
  • Pause detect cuts the heater when you put it down, so hair is not blasted between sections.

Good to know

  • Designed for straight and wavy hair, according to the specs.
  • Capsule lighting shows heat level, but the listing gives no cable length.

Our take

Intelligent features, one by one

Dyson lists four main sensor-driven functions. Scalp protect mode adjusts temperature to keep the scalp near 55°C during close drying. Attachment learning recognises each head and recalls your preferred heat and airflow. Pause detect turns off the heater and reduces airflow when no motion is sensed, then resumes when you pick it up. Capsule illumination changes colour to show the current heat setting.

A clear endcap lets you see inside the machine, which is a design choice rather than a functional feature.

Why fine hair benefits

Fine hair tends to look flat or frizzy when blasted with high heat. The gentle air attachment, colour-coded heat settings and the 55°C scalp target all give ways to dry without relying on maximum temperature. The smoothing nozzle and flyaway smoother add finish without extra heat.

The spec table lists three speeds and three settings at 1,600 W, and a weight of 640 g. This listing does not spell out the individual heat temperatures, so check the manual if you want exact figures for each step.

Included attachments

The box holds a diffuser, flyaway smoother, gentle air attachment, smoothing nozzle and styling concentrator. That covers rough-drying, smoothing, diffusing waves and taming flyaways. The listing designates straight and wavy hair as the target types. A diffuser is included as well, which helps if you sometimes let natural waves dry with soft movement.

Nural against the standard Supersonic and Panasonic EH-NA0J

The Dyson Supersonic with gentle air and flyaway tools gives a similar attachment approach but its listing does not mention the Nural sensors or pause detect. The Panasonic EH-NA0J takes a moisture route with nanoe MOISTURE+ and dedicated scalp and tip modes. The Nural is the one for people who want automated heat management above all.

Verdict

Buy the Supersonic Nural if you have fine, straight or wavy hair and want the dryer to manage scalp heat and pause itself. If a simpler Dyson without sensors is enough, look at the standard Supersonic, and if moisture care is the priority, the Panasonic EH-NA0J is the alternative.
